Reiki & The Conversations We Avoid: Finding Peace Through Honesty and Energy Healing

Hey, Radiant Soul!

I came across a quote recently from Jillian Turecki that really stopped me in my tracks:

“When you avoid uncomfortable conversations and suppress your needs, you are sowing the seeds of future unhappiness and miscommunication. Avoidance may keep the peace today, but it builds resentment tomorrow.”

Whew. That truth hits deep.

Because if you’re anything like me or many of the women I work with, there have been moments where keeping the peace felt easier than saying what’s on your heart. Maybe you didn’t want to disappoint someone. Maybe your body tightened at the thought of confrontation. Or maybe, after years of caretaking and surviving, silence simply felt safer.

But over time, silence starts to hurt too.

Whenever we hold back our truth, our energy contracts just a little. The body remembers what we don’t say, and the heart holds what we don’t release.

And that’s where Reiki gently steps in, not to push, but to help you breathe again.

Avoidance Isn’t Weakness — It’s Protection

Avoidance is often labeled as a flaw, but it’s actually a form of protection. It’s your nervous system saying, “I don’t feel safe.”

When something feels emotionally charged, like sharing a boundary, expressing disappointment, or saying no, your body might instantly move into fight, flight, or freeze. You might feel your throat tighten, your shoulders rise, your stomach twist. That’s not a weakness; your body remembers old experiences where speaking up didn’t feel safe.

Reiki helps regulate that response. By calming your nervous system and soothing the energy centers that govern communication (especially the throat chakra), it creates a sense of safety in your body so you can move through hard conversations with more grace and less fear.

Truth as Energy Alignment

Reiki has taught me that truth is a form of alignment. It’s not about being loud or bold, it’s about being clear. When your truth is stuck inside you, it’s like stagnant energy. It creates pressure — emotional and physical. You might feel tension in your chest, headaches, or fatigue that seems to come out of nowhere.

But when you begin speaking from the heart, when your energy and words match, your vibration shifts. Reiki helps you move from suppression to flow.

It reminds you that honesty doesn’t have to be harsh. You can be kind and direct, loving and clear, soft and strong.

How Reiki Helps You Prepare for Hard Conversations

Here are a few ways I’ve seen Reiki support honest communication both for myself and the clients I work with:

1. Grounding Before the Conversation

When you know a conversation might be complicated, start by grounding yourself.

  • Place one hand on your heart, one on your lower belly.

  • Inhale deeply for four counts, exhale for six.

  • Visualize warm golden Reiki light moving through your body, reminding your nervous system that you are safe.

This grounding anchors you in the present moment. It’s from this calm place that your words will flow with clarity instead of reactivity.

2. Clearing the Throat Chakra

When we’re afraid to speak up, our throat chakra (Vishuddha) can become blocked, creating tension in the neck, jaw, or shoulders. Reiki helps open this energy center so that truth can move freely.

You can try this:

  • Place your hand over your throat.

  • Take a deep breath and affirm: “It is safe for me to express my truth with love.”

  • Imagine a soft blue light expanding and clearing any tightness.

You’ll feel your energy shift from fear to freedom.

3. Sending Reiki Energy Into the Conversation

Before meeting or talking to someone, you can send Reiki energy to the situation. Visualize both of you surrounded in gentle white or golden light. Set the intention that communication flows with compassion and understanding.

This isn’t about controlling the outcome but aligning with peace before you even begin. Reiki holds the vibration of love. When you hold that energy, your words naturally carry it too.

4. Releasing After the Conversation

Even honest conversations can leave emotional residue. Afterward, your body might feel tired or heavy. Take a few minutes to clear your energy:

  • Journal what you felt and what you learned.

  • Take a salt bath or shower to symbolically release what’s no longer yours.

  • Place your hands over your heart and whisper, “Thank you for showing up.”

Honesty is an act of self-love — and like all healing, it deserves gentle care afterward.

The Energy of Avoidance vs. the Energy of Truth

Avoidance feels tight, small, and anxious. Truth feels expansive even when it’s uncomfortable.

Avoidance keeps energy locked in your body. Reiki helps you unlock it. It allows emotions to surface safely, releasing them through the heart instead of storing them in your muscles or chest.

After a Reiki session, you might cry, feel warmth, or exhale deeply; your body releases years of unspoken words and unmet needs.

Truth-telling becomes easier when your body finally believes it’s safe.

If You’ve Been Avoiding a Conversation...

If there’s something you’ve been holding back, try this gentle Reiki-inspired practice before you talk:

  1. Find a quiet space. Sit comfortably and close your eyes.

  2. Place your hands on your heart. Breathe deeply and invite Reiki energy to flow through you.

  3. Visualize the conversation. See yourself calm, grounded, and speaking from love.

  4. Ask yourself:

    • What am I truly feeling?

    • What would honesty look like if I trusted I’d still be loved?

    • What’s one small truth I can share today?

Then, when you’re ready, take one small step toward that truth, whether it’s a message, a boundary, or an “I need to talk about something.”

Each time you speak up, your energy expands. Your voice strengthens. Your inner peace grows.

Reiki as a Bridge Between Honesty and Healing

Speaking your truth isn’t about conflict, it’s about connection. It’s about living in integrity with yourself and allowing your energy to move freely through your body and relationships.

Reiki helps create emotional safety and regulate the nervous system. It doesn’t eliminate fear; it gives you the tools to move through it.

You can love someone deeply and still express a need. You can honor peace while holding boundaries. You can be spiritual and gentle and still say “no.”

That’s what authentic alignment looks like.

Final Thought

Here’s the thing, peace that costs your truth isn’t peace. It’s suppression dressed up as harmony.

You deserve relationships, friendships, and spaces where your truth is safe, where your needs matter, and where your energy can expand instead of shrink.

So, pause the next time your heart nudges you toward an uncomfortable conversation. Breathe. Place a hand over your heart. Invite Reiki energy to flow through you to steady your voice, to open your heart, and to remind you that honesty and love can exist in the same breath.

Because every time you choose truth over silence, you come home to yourself. And that’s where real peace and real healing begin.
