How to Break the Anxiety Loop and Find Clarity Again: Reiki and EFT Tapping for Nervous System Regulation

Most of the women I work with aren't anxious about nothing. There's a real situation sitting in the center of their life. A career move that feels too big. A money decision with no obvious right answer. A next step that everyone seems to have an opinion about, except the one person who actually has to live it. And the longer they sit in it, the more it starts to feel less like a decision and more like a loop they can't climb out of.

Here is what that loop actually looks like, because naming it matters. There's a situation in your life that triggers a set of thoughts. Those thoughts create feelings inside your body, real physical sensations, not just abstract worry. Those feelings then shape how you act and what you decide, or more often, they keep you from deciding anything at all. And then you get results from those actions, or from the inaction, and those results feed right back into the situation. Around and around. When you're already feeling anxious, already doubting yourself, already unclear about your next step, that loop can feel almost infinite. You know something needs to shift, but you genuinely don't know where to grab hold of it.

The thing I want you to understand is that you cannot think your way out of this particular kind of loop. Anxiety lives in the body before it ever becomes a clear thought, and the part of your brain running the loop isn't the rational part. It's the reactive part, the one keeping you in a low hum of fight-or-flight. This is why nervous system regulation has to come first. Clarity is not something you force. It's something you make space for once your body feels safe enough to stop bracing.

Why your nervous system has to come first

When you're caught in burnout, chronic stress, a season of big change, or just the slow build of carrying too much for too long, your nervous system is essentially stuck in a protective mode. It's reading every big decision as a threat, which is exactly why a career choice or a money question can feel as urgent and overwhelming as something genuinely dangerous. Your body doesn't know the difference. It just knows it doesn't feel safe.

Nervous system regulation is the practice of teaching your body that it's okay to come down from that heightened state. And here's the part that surprises people: you make better decisions when your nervous system is regulated. Not because the answer magically appears, but because you can finally hear your own thinking again instead of the static of panic. This is what it means to feel safe in your body. It's the ground on which everything else stands. You start to feel like yourself again, and from there, the path forward stops looking like a cliff and starts looking like a step.

Where Reiki comes in

Reiki is one of my favorite tools for this exact moment, because it works directly with the stuck, stagnant energy that tends to pool when we've been holding tension for a long time. When you've been carrying a decision for weeks or months, that weight isn't just in your head. It settles into the body. Reiki helps clear that stuck energy and brings your system back toward balance, which is why so many women describe a distance Reiki session as the first time in ages they could actually exhale.

Distance Reiki works beautifully here because the energy isn't bound by location, and you get to receive it in your own space, in your own bed, on your own couch, wherever you feel most safe. That sense of safety is doing real work. It's part of what allows your nervous system to soften and your mind to settle.

Why I pair Reiki with EFT tapping

If Reiki clears the energy, EFT tapping rewires the loop. This is the combination I come back to again and again, because they do different jobs and they do them well together.

EFT, which stands for Emotional Freedom Technique, is a practice where you tap with your fingertips on specific points on the body while you speak honestly about what you're feeling. Those tapping points sit along energy meridians, and the gentle tapping sends a calming signal to the brain, specifically to the part that's been holding you in that reactive, anxious state. While you tap, you're not pretending everything is fine. You're naming the truth of what's going on, and then gently guiding yourself toward something steadier. That combination of acknowledgment and physical input helps interrupt the thought and feeling patterns that keep you stuck.

What I love most about EFT is that you can take it everywhere. You don't need a quiet room or an hour of free time. You can do it in your car before a hard conversation, in the bathroom at work when the overwhelm hits, in five quiet minutes before bed. It can shift you from overwhelm into something closer to action. It can take the edge off the anxiety, lower your stress response, and leave you feeling more capable than you did a few minutes earlier. Five minutes is genuinely enough to create a little shift, and little shifts add up.

So when life feels like too much, or your next decision feels too hard to make, this is what I recommend: turn to EFT before and after your Reiki session. Tap before to soften the resistance and meet yourself honestly. Receive the Reiki to clear what's stuck. Then tap again afterward to anchor in the calm and the clarity. Together, they help you break the brain's reactive loops, interrupt the worn thought pattern, and find the clarity that's been waiting underneath all that noise.

A simple how-to before you begin

If you've never tapped before, here's the short version. You'll use two or three fingertips and tap gently, about 5 to 7 times, on each point as you move through them. There's no need to be precise or perfect. Tap firmly enough to feel it, but it should never hurt. Speak the words out loud if you can, because saying them matters more than thinking them. Take a slow breath between rounds.

You'll start at the side of the hand, the fleshy part you'd use for a karate chop, and say your setup statements there. Then you'll move through the points in this order: eyebrow, side of the eye, under the eye, under the nose, under the mouth, collarbone, under the arm, and finally the top of the head. That's one full round.

EFT Tapping Script: Finding Clarity and Trusting Yourself

Find a quiet moment. Take one slow breath in and let it go.

Side of the hand (setup statements)

Tapping continuously on the side of your hand, say each statement out loud:

Even though I feel anxious and unsure about this decision, and I can't see my next step clearly, I deeply and completely accept myself.

Even though my mind keeps running the same loop and I don't trust myself to get this right, I choose to be gentle with myself anyway.

Even though my body feels tight and overwhelmed, and clarity feels far away, I am open to feeling safe in my body again.

Round one (naming what's true)

Eyebrow: All of this anxiety I'm carrying.

Side of the eye: This decision feels too big.

Under the eye: I keep running the same thoughts over and over.

Under the nose: This loop I can't seem to get out of.

Under the mouth: I don't trust myself to choose right.

Collarbone: All this tension sitting in my body.

Under the arm: This overwhelm I've been holding for so long.

Top of the head: I'm so tired of feeling stuck.

Round two (allowing the shift)

Eyebrow: Maybe I don't have to figure it all out right now.

Side of the eye: Maybe my body can soften just a little.

Under the eye: I'm allowed to set this down for a moment.

Under the nose: I'm allowed to breathe.

Under the mouth: The loop doesn't have to keep running.

Collarbone: I can let some of this tension go.

Under the arm: It's safe to slow down.

Top of the head: I'm beginning to feel a little more space.

Round three (turning toward trust)

Eyebrow: I'm safe in my body right now.

Side of the eye: I've made good decisions before.

Under the eye: I know myself better than I give myself credit for.

Under the nose: I can trust my own inner knowing.

Under the mouth: Clarity is allowed to come to me.

Collarbone: I don't have to rush the answer.

Under the arm: I'm learning to trust myself again.

Top of the head: The next step will become clear.

Closing round (positive anchoring)

Tap a little slower here. Let yourself mean it.

Eyebrow: I am calm, and I am capable.

Side of the eye: I feel more like myself again.

Under the eye: I trust myself to know what's right for me.

Under the nose: My nervous system knows how to feel safe.

Under the mouth: Clarity is on its way.

Collarbone: I am steady, even with the unknown.

Under the arm: I am grounded, and I am supported.

Top of the head: I trust myself, and I trust my next step.

Take one more slow breath. Notice how your body feels now compared to when you started. Even a small shift counts.

Putting it together

You don't have to white out the anxiety completely before you're allowed to move forward. You just have to create enough space for clarity to find you. That's the whole work here. Regulate the nervous system, clear what's stuck, interrupt the loop, and let your own wisdom rise back to the surface where you can actually hear it.

If you're sitting in one of those moments where the next step feels too heavy to carry alone, a distance Reiki session is a beautiful place to begin, and tapping before and after will help the whole thing land deeper. You don't have to stay in the loop. There's a way through, and you're more capable of finding it than the anxiety would have you believe.

You got this. Keep shining. — Natalie
