✨ Reiki Note: Reiki 101: What Is Reiki? A Gentle Introduction to Energy Healing

Hey, Radiant Soul!

Maybe you’ve heard the word “Reiki” floating around — in a yoga class, on Instagram, or whispered from a friend after a session that left them “feeling lighter.” But what is Reiki, really? Is it magic? Is it spiritual? Do you have to believe in it for it to work?

Let me bring you into the truth of this practice — not from a textbook, but from my own lived experience as a Reiki Master and someone who has healed through its quiet power.

So, What Is Reiki?

Reiki (pronounced ray-key) is a Japanese form of energy healing that means “universal life force energy.” It’s based on the idea that energy flows through all of us — not just physical energy like movement or breath, but subtle, energetic frequencies that impact how we feel, think, and even heal.

When that energy becomes blocked — by stress, emotional trauma, grief, chronic illness, or burnout — it can throw us out of balance. That’s where Reiki comes in.

Reiki gently restores energetic flow by channeling healing energy through the practitioner’s hands. During a session, I act as a conduit—not “giving” you my energy but holding space for your system to receive and realign with what it needs most. It’s gentle, safe, and noninvasive.

Reiki Isn’t About Fixing — It’s About Returning

If I could offer one truth about Reiki, it’s this: Reiki doesn’t come in to fix what’s broken because you are not broken.

Instead, Reiki reminds your body of what it already knows: how to soften, rest, repair, and come home.

In this way, Reiki isn’t about pushing or forcing healing. It’s not a quick fix or a high-pressure technique. It’s subtle. Sometimes it’s emotional, sometimes it’s quiet. Always, it meets you where you are.

What Does Reiki Feel Like?

People ask me this all the time — and the answer is: it depends.

Some of my clients feel warmth or tingling. Others feel a soft wave of calm, like floating. Some cry. Some fall asleep. Some don’t “feel” anything during the session, but notice they sleep more deeply that night or have more clarity the next day.

There’s no right way to experience Reiki. It works beyond the mind and physical body, often at the energetic and subconscious level. Even when you’re not sure what’s happening, your system is doing the work.

Reiki can support:

  • Emotional release

  • Nervous system regulation

  • Physical pain relief

  • Mental clarity

  • Energy flow

  • Manifestation alignment

  • Sleep and relaxation

And most importantly? It reminds you what it feels like to be in your body without overwhelm.

But…Do You Have to “Believe” in It?

Nope. You don’t have to be spiritual or open-minded or “ready.” Reiki doesn’t require belief. Just a willingness to receive.

In fact, some of my most powerful sessions have been with skeptical but curious people—they came in holding tension and left with a softness they hadn’t felt in months.

Reiki works with your body’s natural intelligence. Even if your mind is unsure, your energy will recognize what it needs.

Why I Practice Reiki

I came to Reiki during a time when I was burned out, emotionally exhausted, and unsure how to move forward. I was doing all the “right” things — meditating, journaling, taking care of others — but something in me still felt disconnected.

Reiki was the first time I felt deeply seen… without needing to say a word. It helped me reconnect to my body, feel safe enough to rest, and eventually start creating from a place of fullness instead of depletion.

That’s why I do this work now—not to “heal” people but to create space for them to remember their own power.

Ready to Try Reiki?

If you’re curious, you don’t have to know all the answers. You don’t need to wait for the perfect moment. You don’t need to do more or be more to receive this kind of support.

Your body already knows how to heal. Reiki just opens the door.

Keep shining — and remember, healing doesn’t have to be loud to be powerful. Sometimes the quietest moments bring the biggest shifts.

With gratitude, keep shining
